Show - 2008
The second Juried Fine Art Show at the Franklin Center was
once again a success. The Center’s ambiance was most
complimentary to the art work displayed on the newly installed
Gallery Hanging System (provided by a grant to the Fine Arts
League from the Friends of the Foundation). The Show
received many compliments because of the location, the well-
lighted spacious room, easy access, and pretty importantly,
“The friendliness of the Coleman people”.
Some 100 people attended the Gala Dinner/Preview Exhibit
Saturday evening and watched Tom Lockhart, Colorado Artist,
paint a Coleman County landscape which sold at a silent
auction. Sarah’s “Dressing Up” provided a delightful Italian
meal. Thanks to all who bought tickets and came in support of
the Fine Arts League effort to provide art to the community.
The Fine Arts League appreciates the use of the facilities for
the show. We realize the immense utility and maintenance
costs that must be met for the Center. It is our hope that the
use of the facility during such events as ours has a positive
economical impact on our community.
Many out-of town guests came during the week for the 4 artists’
day of demonstrations for the 400 CISD Elementary students,
the 2-1/2 day workshop (14 adult students from El Paso to
Kingsland), the exhibit, and the Gala Dinner. Some of these
guests stayed in local motels, ate at our restaurants, shopped
in our stores, bought local gasoline and groceries (one couple
brought their travel trailer from Oklahoma City and camped at
Hords Creek Lake!) It was a fun week!
Thank you to those people who, several years ago, saw the
need for a place for the community to hold many different types
of events and persevered until it was built.
