Danna Dawson at FALCC Meeting

Danna Dawson, Art teacher at CISD and FALCC Member, presented a program for the Fine Arts League Meeting November 20th at the First Coleman National Bank Clubroom. Danna's program included the instructions she gives her students from the beginning drawing through the completion of the work, including perspective, values, design, color, etc. She presented some examples of the work of the students which were indicative of good prospects for some excellent artists coming out of CISD. The Fine Arts League members support the efforts made by the school and Danna to expose the youth to the arts. A youth art show will be sponsored by the League in February of next year. Everyone present agreed that we are very fortunate to have this talanted and capable art teacher in our community.
The Danna Dawson has lived in Texas for 17 years. Danna graduated from ASU in Jonesboro, AR and moved to Texas the next year. She has taught a variety of grades all over Texas- Kindergarten, First, Second, Third, Special Ed., Fifth, Sophomore English, and her favorite- ART.
She hopes to go back to school and finish her Art degree some day- Danna states, “ It is a wonderful experience to be surrounded by so many wonderful artists in Coleman. Hopefully, I’ll be able to attend a lot of workshops and get back to my artwork.”
Danna and her husband, Tracy, have four children- Aaron is 19, Danielle is 12, Conner is 11, and Baily is 6. Aaron is a sophomore at the University of Arkansas. The other three are very involved in basketball, soccer, gymnastics, and art. Tracy is the Girls Basketball Coach at CISD.
“We really love this town and are glad to be back in West Texas. “ And we are glad to have them!!

Danna Dawson’s Art Class Enjoys November Fieldtrip
A Personal Note by Marian Johnson:
Danna Dawson, Coleman School Art teacher, maneuvered her 25 well-behaved youngsters on a field trip Thursday through my Pink Flamingo Art Studio. The class enjoyed their stroll through the Studio with the many Pink Flamingos. Teacher, Dawson, introduced the students to paintings in watercolor, pastel and oils as well as drawings in charcoal.
Of great interest were the polymer clay dolls I designed and created. “When I Grow Old, I shall Wear Purple” is a doll with real hair (gray), glass eyes, dressed in purple silk and carrying a stick “The Phantom” is an articulated doll (with legs) dressed in the familiar black cape lined in red satin, with black tuxedo jacket and pants with a felt hat and a removable mask, holding his ‘trademark’ red rose. His shoes are made of leather from Tex Robin’s boot shop!
Each member of the class was given a business card with a print of a watercolor painting, “A Christmas Ornament” .
I thoroughly enjoyed the visit by Mrs. Dawson’s class and their expressed interest in art. They are welcome to the Pink anytime!
