2009
A Mighty Good Year for
FALCC Art!

With most folks, it’s customary at the end of a year or project, to look back and see if it was a fruitful experience. As far as the Fine Arts League of Coleman County, we count 2009 one of our best since inception in 1991. Different times bring different needs to the community – but the need for creative innovation always exists.

The League’s 40(+) members are aware of the need for art/creative activities for the youth and adults. Adult Members can receive an art boost from a well developed demonstration or workshop experience. So to meet those needs in 2009 the FALCC presented the following activities:

FALCC Members Donated paintings and other art work to REHAB to help raise more than $1,000,000.00 for community support

January FALCC Program was Sherrell Hazlewood , FALCC President, who gave two power points: Inspiration and Interpretation 101, and The Art of Vincent Van Gogh

The Sesquicentennial Cookbook was created by the members in 2008, Chaired by Lois McCarty and sold-out in 2009 for a fundraiser.

Five FALCC members were juried into the 2009 Brownwood Stars of Texas Juried Art Show : Bill Shields, Sharon Dick, Sher Dunaway, Theda Rhea, and Marian Johnson

First Youth Art Show – 47 entrants with a total of 61 pieces of art work in various media with Awards Ceremony, by Community Activities Chair, Robin Black and FALCC Member and Coleman ISD Art Teacher Danna Dawson.

The 2009 Youth Show was judged by FALCC Brownwood Artists
Ted and Martha Shelton.

February FALCC Program was a demonstration in watercolor presented by Artist/FALCC Member,
Ginger Test.

March FALCC Program was Theda Rhea , FALCC Telephone Officer, who demonstrated painting portraits from life, with Model
and FALCC Member Tammy Jo Turner.

FALCC members Sherrell Hazlewood and Theda Rhea participated in the Quick Draw of the the Texas Divison of Holistic Management International meeting in Abilene, TX.

Ginger Test hosted a Workshop in Mason. TX

Four FALCC Artists participated the Annual Miniature Show in
Ballinger, TX.. FALCC Members Ginger Test won Third Place, Theda Rhea won Honorable Mention, Sherrell Hazlewood won the Peoples Choice Award. Marian Johnson also represented FALCC at the Ballinger Mini Show

FALCC Member, Sher Dunaway, presented a program for the Coleman Town & Country Garden Club

Sherrell Hazlewood, FALCC President, published his Texas Blue Bunny stories and art book and granted the Art League exclusive rights to sell the first 100 books as a part of FALCC on-going fundraising activities.

April FALCC Program presented by Dollie Sparkman, FALCC Treasurer and Newsletter Officer, who arranged a visit to the home of Carolyn Merriman to view an impressive Christian Mural Painting by FALCC Member Judia Terry.

Members, Bill & Sue Shields, judged an Art Show at Novice School

May FALCC Program was presented by Master quilter, Lois McCarty, who gave a hands-on demostration for Art League members using Fabric in Art.

A Memorial Service was held for Millie Martin, past FALCC President and Arts Advocate.

FALCC Member Theda Rhea served as Judge for San Angelo Art Club's 2009 Fiesta in Realism Show held at the Kendall Gallery in
San Angelo, TX.

Sherrell Hazlewood, as guest at the Coleman Kiwanis and
Rotary Club
's June meetings, presented a power-point program concerning the League’s activities and up-coming Juried Show in October

Sherrell Hazlewood presented a Texas Blue Bunny Program for the Summer Reading Group at the Coleman Public Library.

FALCC Member Theda Rhea exhibited in the Annual Stamford Invatitional Art Foundation Show and participated in the Quick Draw Event held in conjunction with the Annual Texas Cowboy Reunion in Stamford, TX.

FALCC Membership Show was held at the Coleman Public Library,
Chaired by Bill Shields

Workshop in Watercolor by FALCC Member Jo Beck, of Clifton,TX., was held in Coleman, TX. at Heritage Hall.

FALCC Member Sher Dunaway had photography accepted in the 18th Annual Photography Juried Exhibition, The Hubbard Museum of
the American West, Ruidoso Downs, NM


FALCC Member Sher Dunaway won first place for photography
and 3rd place in mixed media in the
Autumn Leaves Art Show, Eastland, TX.

September FALCC Program was a powerpoint presentation by
Sherrell Hazlewood of the Juried Show Accepted Art.

FALCC Member, Ginger Test, conducted her annual “Colorado Gold” week-long workshop in Southfork, Co.

FALCC Member Theda Rhea had three painting accepted into the Breckenridge Fine Arts Juried Art Show

The 19th Fiesta Art Show (Juried for 2007, 2008 & 2009)
at Coleman Public Library. Show Juror was Susan Mansell.

Eleven FALCC members were juried into
the 2009 Fiesta Juried Art Show:
Jo Beck, Sharon Dick, Jane Fulleton, Sherrell Hazlewood,
Marian Johnson, Theda Rhea, Tammy Jo Turner,
Linda Wright, Bill Shields, Adam Sparkman, and Ginger Test.

Theda Rhea, FALCC Telephone Officer, won the Best of Show Award at the 2009 Fiesta Juried Art Show with her oil painting Dog Days With Susie Schnauzer.

FALCC Jane Fullerton won an Honorable Mention at the
2009 Fiesta Juried Art Show with her oil painting The Painter.

FALCC Member Sher Dunaway had photography accepted in the
Rio Brazos Art Exhibition

FALCC Member Bill Shields had art work accepted in the Big Country Juried Art Show in Abilene, TX

Devon Mitchell (age 12), Granddaughter of FALCC Member, Kay Mitchell, publishes her book “The Candy Dragon”

2009 Mini Christmas Tree Exhibit

November FALCC Program, “Art for your Pocket”, presented by Marian Johnson, creating 2.5x3.5 paintings in pastel, watercolor , oil and acrylic.

Donna Albus and Marjorie Cloud of REHAB attended the November FALCC Meeting and presented a cowboy boot that was painted by Millie Martin for REHAB. FALCC will send the painted boot to Millie's son in Florida.
