Fine Arts League of Coleman County
May, 2010 NEWSLETTER
Hello again, my faithful Art League Friends.
What a busy time of the year for everyone!! It seems like everything is happening this month at schools, and everywhere else. The newsletter is a little bit later than usual, but will try to get this done so all of you can be FOR SURE making plans to be at our last meeting of the season. It is even going to be Pot Luck! So, make your most famous dish and come and eat!!! We always know how to do that, for sure. I always think I will be glad not to have another meeting, but then, I miss everyone really bad when we don't have our meetings - but we will have our Membership Show in July, and that sorta breaks up the summer for us. Be sure to be working on something to exhibit there, because we want to see something (no matter what it is) from each member in that show if possible. Bill Shields will be in charge of that show, for which we thank him very much. It is a lot of work and he and Sue always do a terrific job, so bring lots of entries! Don't forget July 20 thru the 24th. Then Juried Art Show will be the lst and 2nd. of October - There will be more information on this later. Check out our beautiful web-page (of course done by our president, Sherrell Hazlewood) for all the details on both shows. He keeps it updated regularly, and it is sooooo cool! ( Maybe your paintings are on it, too. Better check it out !!-wwwfineartsleaguecolemantx.com) Sherrell will also present a short program at the meeting on taking digital photos of artwork to submit to competitions. - Many of you I know will be interested it that. May 20, at 6:00 p.m. - FCNB clubroom - See you there!
Our artists have all been going strong this summer.
The Mid-West Texas Art Association Mini Show in Ballinger was a success with 58 entries. Two of our members won awards! Ginger Test was the recipient of a $50.00 Purchase Award, and Sher Dunaway won an Honorable Mention award. Way to go, girls!
Robin Black and Danna Dawson are working on chalk sidewalk paintings for the Juried Show done by students, and would like to know if anyone has any sidewalk chalk they would like to donate for this very fun exhibit - Sounds like it would generate lots of interest! Just let Robin or Danna know! Thanks girls for all you do! (Oh, be sure the chalk is the washable kind!)
A reminder from Bitsy Murchison that the First United Methodist Church Art Camp will be held the first week in August. They are desperately in need of artists to volunteer to demonstrate techniques, etc. So far, they have only two artists that have indicated they can help - The shifts are two hours - 10 a.m. to noon, and l-3 p.m. - Let her know if you can help. We had several help last year, and the kids really were anxious to learn how to draw and paint. - We'll try to have another sign-up sheet at the meeting! They had to turn some children down last year. It was amazing!
Theda Rhea had a workshop in Raymondville this month, and had a large group from their
Art Club there. It was very successful - Their Club is having a salad luncheon at their last meeting, and they are asking those who took the workshop to bring their work for others to see. They were so delighted to have her come down there! They were a wonderful group. Thanks, Ruth Ann Taylor, for the info.
Guess that's all there is for now - See you the 20th.! Bring food!
Love to all,
