Painting Blue Bonnets
by Marion Johnson, Publicity
Fine Arts League of Coleman Co., Inc.
Long ago when artists were painting blue bonnets - the State flower, and one of Texas' favorite subjects, Sherrell Hazlewood was inspired to paint blue bunnies instead.
Hazlewood's Texas Blue Bunny has been published in 2009 - "The Texas Blue Bunny"; the Texas Blue Bunny has been honored with his image on Christmas cards; small canvases 2"x3" were sold at the Fiesta Art Show (profiting the Fine Arts League); a humongous 4x8 ft. creation caused quite a stir at the Fiesta Show and won one of the awards. Sherrell's creation, the Bodacious Texas Blue Bunny, has gone "viral" (as the techies say). From the lowly Texas Blue Bunny in the desert with other characters of Hazlewood's imagination, to the proclaimed champion of the first Coleman Texas Blue Bunny Shop Hop.
Due to the inspiration of the Coleman Business People's Association and others, the bunny will present a fun way to shop Coleman. The participating stores will have Blue Bunny Shop Hop maps to purchase for $1 from the store.
The program begins Friday after Thanksgiving November 25 and runs through December 17. Businesses participating will be published in the Coleman newspaper. Get your map and " Hop to Shop" next week. Helping the downtown merchants helps all of the community, besides you will have a chance to win a 50" Panasonic TV!!!
Sherrell Hazlewood is a past President of the Fine Arts League of Coleman County, Inc. His wife, artist Theda Rhea, maintains her studio in Coleman at 607 Hillside Drive.
Believe it, Live it, Love it ---- Coleman!
